About SYLP

Shine Your Light Publishing (SYLP) was born of frustration and the feeling of being alone in the publishing industry world. Brenda spent thousands of dollars getting her first book published with a hybrid publisher, only to receive one royalty check for $85. She quickly realized that the relationship would not be sustainable. Her first novel, Harlem Angel, had received a few positive ratings, but for all the effort she put in, the payoff didn't reach her expectations.

Brenda made the decision to pull her book from the hybrid company and self-publish it instead. The contract required that her book be pulled from the market for 30 days. The only platform she had any access to was Amazon. Thirty days tanked her standings against the 8 million other self-published titles. It took years to get close to those numbers again, but Brenda didn't give up. That 30 days allowed her to do some research and launch SYLP.

SYLP is a result of that hard work. Her goals are to publish her own manuscripts (there are 5 published books now)  and to give new writers a chance to get their work out there without mortgaging their lives to do it. Whether you choose self-publishing, hybrid publishing, or traditional publishing, you will do most of the work yourself. SYLP can help you target your efforts, regardless of your choice.
